A hardcover bound book always has a traditional elegant look. It doesn’t matter if it is your keepsake family memoir or high quality art book, we have your hardcover book printing needs taken care of! Hardcover books or case bound books are the second most popular books on the market. This hardcover book binding style is used often in memoirs, history books, special editions, and photography books. It can be used for children’s books, but printing small quantities of hardcover books can be quite expensive, which is something to consider when choosing hardcover binding style. As a hardcover or case-bound book printer, we print all of our hardcover books in single sheets and then bind with PUR or EVA glue. We offer both printed hardcovers and linen or faux leather hardcover books with the option of dust jacket printing as well. Since we are a book printer and not a publisher, the books we print are owned by the authors/publishers. This means we cannot send out samples of their work to you without permission by them. If you are interested in seeing our printing quality, we offer our free softcover book Journey into Making a Book, A Guide to Printing & Publishing as an example of our softcover binding style, paper, and printing. You can Contact Us to see if we have any hardcover swatch options for linen or faux leather samples if there is a particular color you are looking for, or any hardcover samples available. However, we may be limited in quantity.
Hardcover books' interior pages are printed digitally in black and white or in color. Since we are a digital book printer, we do not print in signatures which means you can print some color pages and some black and white pages in no specific order in your book!
Our most popular hardcover interior book paper is our 60lb white interior book paper. We also offer other uncoated and coated interior paper stocks in both white and natural (off-white) with thickness ranging from 50lb to 80lb.

We print all hardcover books’ printed covers on a digital press in full color. Our printed hardcovers are printed on 100 lb coated book paper. This allows for flexibility of the printed cover to be wrapped around the hardcover board. After your printed hardcover book’s cover is printed, we then add a finish. This can be either a film lamination in gloss or soft-touch matte. Our film lamination gives additional protection for your hardcover book’s cover.
For linen, cloth, or faux leather hardcover books, these materials are bought from our suppliers, then cut and wrapped around the hardcover board. All of our linen, cloth, and faux leather hardcover books include foil stamping on the front cover and the spine (if spine is large enough) in either gold foil or silver foil. Every hardcover book printing includes a custom copper die that will be made for stamping of both the front cover (up to a 5”x7” area) and spine (if the spine is large enough). We offer both Gold and Silver foil options as standard but if you are looking for a unique custom color, Contact Us to discuss options!
To set up your foil stamping, follow the Hardcover Foil Stamping instructions and submit a PDF die setup (black and white), and optionally a PDF of the die mockup as well. If we do not receive a foil stamping setup from you, we will set one up for you for free using your Title page as a guide.
We offer a variety of hardcover linen, cloth and faux leather options for your hardcover book. Hardcover linen and cloth colors can vary slightly between lots from the factory. Very similar to how every piece of wood from a mill may look slightly different. Here are a few different linen, cloth, and faux leather options we offer for hardcover books:
After we print single sheets and cut down the book blocks of hardcover books, we then work with our partner finishing bindery to case-in the covers and bind the books. Hardcover books are bound with a flexible glue of either PUR or EVA. The glue binding allows the spine to be flexible and open easily for readers. Hardcover books can be made in as little as 25 book quantities or up to 5000 and page counts from 24-900 pages depending on the interior paper.
If your hardcover book is over 900 pages or is too thick for PUR or EVA binding, Contact Us to discuss cleat sewn options. This is where the single sheets of paper are sewn together. Hardcover books with cleat sewn bindings tend to be very stiff and hard to open.
If you are looking for a layflat hardcover book, this would be done at a specialty print shop. We currently do not offer layflat hardcover books but if you need your pages to lay flat, we recommend Spiral Binding.

No, not all hardcover books are made the same. Most high-quality hardcover books will take a long time to create. Some hardcover books are glue bound, such as ours. Other hardcover books have sewn bindings, layflat bindings, or are printed in signatures. We print in single sheets and offer PUR and EVA glued hardcover books. If your book requires a sewn binding (high page count over 900+), we can give you a quote for cleat sewn binding.
Each hardcover book requires quite a bit of cure time at each stage, and over 15 different stages that require a specialty craftsman to oversee each stage. Because of this process hardcover books can take anywhere from a few weeks up to 12 weeks depending on your quantity and specs. We usually say production of hardcover books takes 6-8 weeks after approval of your proof. Learn more about the hardcover book production process.
You can print any size hardcover book from 4x5 to 8.5x11 inches in portrait or landscape. For the best pricing, we offer standard sizes of 5.5x8.5, 6x9, and 8.5x11 inches. We also offer custom trim sizes that you can access by selecting “Other” under the size dropdown on our Online Pricing Tool. You can print as many as you want! We print hardcover books in quantities from 25-5000. Depending on your sale goals, you may want to start with a lower quantity and then reprint more later. Use our Online Pricing Tool to get started.
Hardcover books can have anywhere from 24 to 900 pages in them depending on the interior paper used. If your book is over 900 pages, Contact Us to discuss your books page count and we can help you find the right book binding style that will fit you.
How much to sell your hardcover book for is dependent on where and how you will be selling your self-published books.
